LLDC admits it would cost billions to get us out of the stadium
|
well sort of anyway -
"We have a 99-year concession agreement with West Ham," he told the assembly. "Those contracts are onerous, we make a loss - but we are working to fix it so the losses are dramatically less.
"We are looking to ensure the stadium contributes to the economic value of the regeneration that's being delivered and want to get it to a position where it breaks even and isn't a drain on resources.
"Pulling out of the agreement is not one of things we're looking as at as we've got a 99 year agreement - and I think having Premier League football in the area is a big part of the benefit.
"Such a [move] would require analysis of the direct financial costs to buy a Premier League club out of the home they're committed to for 99 years and the value that the stadium generates to the wider regeneration, which would be in the billions.
"It's important that we recognise the value of working with West Ham as a Premier League club as the tenant brings enormous value into the area."
"There are various challenges around running the stadium," he added. "Specialist engineers are looking at possible ways to reconfigure the seating, to reduce cost which will require initial investment.
"For next summer's athletics, we've looked at a different configuration that means the seats won't have to be moved all the way back. We can do partial changes to each of the stands which drastically reduces the costs of seat moves.
"The East Stand is the largest and most complex to move. When we hosted the 2016 Diamond League events we took some of the rows off the front of the East Stand and moved some blocks, but we didn't move the stand - and that dramatically reduces the cost.
"The opportunity to do that in future would bring down the costs very significantly.
"We're then looking at the same for the other stands and asking how much do we need to move to make it work as an athletics venue and also to host concerts (which also bring in significant income) - and how much we can minimise the moves and therefore the cost and time.
"It is still work in progress, but we've got a configuration for next year we've agreed with UK Athletics that saves more than half of the cost - plus we've got work going on with the engineers to see if there's something we can do to reduce those costs much further."

Rab - I bet the LLDC had plenty of advice that the stadium would not survive as an athletics venue and would have to be reconfigured to accommodate football or some other mass market activity. They simply chose to ignore it because they wanted to win the Olympics bid.

and now this stupid stadium where no-one actually asked before hand what was it going to be after the Olympics and if football was going to be involved then lets build it in a way it was football friendly.
They did ask and we made it clear our interest. The problem was the LLDC said it had to be Athletics first and only wanted a circa 25k stadium post Olympics which obvioulsy we said didn't work for us. The stadium design (and reconfiguration plans) had to be signed off by a certain date set by the IOC and we couldn't agree on stadium size/plan that would work for us before this deadline. It was only after this that the penny dropped and they realised no one gives a fuck about athletics and a small stadium would sit empty 95% of the year because it wouldn't be able to attract larger events competing against the o2, Wembley, Twickenham etc. It's because of the rush to get the stadium planning deadline met that set this whole redesign problem in motion

`The whole idea of a gigantic stadium used for athletics is utterly ridiculous and always was`.
Yup..Almost as ridiculous as putting a football club in there after....

Sebastian Coe seems to have remained quite unscathed by it all.
Amazing where you can get in life just by running quickly

Of course it would take billions - as you’d be looking at out losses multiplied by 98 years.

£BILLIONS? Like bollox it would. None of these fuckers at the LLDC seem to have the faintest idea how to deal with the shit-hole. The sooner the cunts wake up and realise they're going to be losing £MILLIONS every year and the only solution is to hand it over to WHU to do as they please the sooner the club can take steps to attempt to adapt it for football.
FUCK THE LEGACY.

Ain’t just this country, it’s a fundamental law of economics that governments are shit with money, that’s why the bigger the governments, the worse the economy. Just wait till the Marxist Corbs is in Downing St, the whole country will turn into one big, skint fucking white elephant.

Have a look at how the olympic stadia of other countries are doing before you denigrate our country.
Ours is at least being used on a regular basisi.

What is it about this country. The white elephant that was the Millennium Dome must have lost millions before it became what it is now, Wembley being a year and millions over budget and now this stupid stadium where no-one actually asked before hand what was it going to be after the Olympics and if football was going to be involved then lets build it in a way it was football friendly. Billions wasted and yet our taxes just keep going up!!!!

I expect a tremendous BUNG to be paid by LLDC to UK Athletics to build their legacy somewhere more appropriate to the profile of their sport. The Isle of Skye perhaps?
Then West Ham get the freehold for nothing/next to nothing/maybe even another BUNG.
Serves the fuckers right for not accepting our bid in the first place.

Huh? Isn't this just saying we aren't going to lose our home as it would cost someone billions to oust us?

By the time they've finished it would have been cheaper or as cheap to rebuild it with football in mind.

Just leave the seats where they are and make the running races go round them.
Should be fine for the hurdles at least.

Is ot a possibility that some of the half few decent seats are going to get worse/disappear so these clowns can save some money on their running costs?

Work in progress. Configure, configure, configure.
The con, we should never have moved into an arena not fit for football. The board had only their wallets and purses at heart, not the clubs best interests.
The figure, no one can figure it out what the future has in store. We are at a crossroads where we HOPE things come good, and fate has a hand. But this is West Ham so expect the unexpected. We are exposed and vulnerable, it was never a good idea not to have a stadium as an asset.
